The GIANTS and Swans will once again play for the White Ribbon Cup as part of Sydney Derby IX at the SCG this Saturday.

White Ribbon, a foundation community partner of the GIANTS, is Australia’s only national, male led campaign to end men's violence against women.

The partnership has now entered it’s fifth year, with the club actively involved in supporting White Ribbon campaigns.

GIANTS co-captains Callan Ward and Phil Davis are both proud ambassadors, passionate about ending violence against women.

“I’ve got sisters, a mum, a girlfriend as do most men so this is a very important cause and something I take very seriously,” Ward said.

“I encourage other Australian men to take the pledge and acknowledge that any sort of violence against women is completely unacceptable.

“The club has been great in supporting White Ribbon and I’m sure that will continue long into the future.”

GIANTS players and staff will take part in the annual White Ribbon Day March in Lakemba later this year.

When the GIANTS host Sydney in Round 12 fans will have the option of adding a $2 donation to White Ribbon on their ticket purchases while white ribbons can also be purchased from volunteers at the game.

Last season an Air Force C-130J Hercules adorned with 4.6-metre White Ribbons on its tail conducted a low pass of Spotless Stadium pre-match.

One woman a week in Australia is killed as a result of intimate partner violence, one in five Australian women experience harassment in the workplace and one in five women over the age of 18 will be stalked in their lifetime.

The White Ribbon campaign works through primary prevention initiatives including awareness and education raising with schools, work places and across the broader community.

Their vision is to have all women live in safety free from all forms of men’s violence.

The winning captain this Saturday will be presented with the White Ribbon Cup while the player judged best on ground will receive the Brett Kirk Medal.
