Harry Perryman is among a quartet of players pushing for AFL selection after an impressive outing for the GIANTS Reserves on Saturday.

Perryman racked up 27 possessions playing 70 per cent game time in the 7.5 (47) to 19.19 (133) loss to Southport.

The ever-consistent Tim Mohr put his hand up again, while youngsters Sam Taylor and Isaac Cumming have done their chances of an AFL debut no harm.

“I think Sammy Taylor, Tim Mohr, Harry Perryman and Isaac Cumming have been super for us,” GIANTS NEAFL coach Adam Schneider said.

“Sammy Taylor had definitely his best game for the season, Tim Mohr has been the most consistent all year, and Isaac Cumming has built every game and this week was really good for him.

“Harry Perryman’s a class above with his touch and footy smarts.”

Southport returned to the top of the NEAFL ladder following the win, which was set up with a strong start against the GIANTS.

“Southport are a very good team and recruited very well, and obviously with the Academy series going on, it’s tough for our guys,” Schneider said.

“But the 10 listed players we had, I was pleased with their effort.

“I asked our boys to bring 120 minutes of competitive footy and they did that.”

Southport 6.5, 10.7, 13.13, 19.19 (133)

GIANTS 0.1, 3.3, 4.3, 7.5 (47)

The NEAFL GIANTS Reserves host Sydney Swans Reserves at Spotless Stadium at 10.20am this Saturday, as a curtain-raiser to the AFL match between the GIANTS and West Coast Eagles.

GIANTS NEAFL coach Adam Schneider on the performance of GIANTS AFL-listed players:

Isaac Cumming – 33 disposals, 9 marks, 2 tackles

“‘Cheese’ was good and he played a different role for us. We put him in the midfield for the first half to expand his footy knowledge and experience and he did really well, having 19 touches in the first half.”

Sam Taylor – 30 disposals, 14 marks, 2 tackles

“Probably the most pleasing thing about his game was his 15 marks and his ability to really shut out an opponent. We gave him a job for the day and he kept his opponent really, really quiet, so that was extremely pleasing for him.”

Harry Perryman – 27 disposals, 6 marks, 3 tackles

“Coming up against a good midfield in a couple of their players, he did really well. He gave us first use out of there a lot and was very clean with his possessions.”

Zach Sproule – 22 disposals, 8 marks, 4 tackles

“He’s just a competitor and works really hard for us. We got him in the midfield a little bit as well due to the ball not getting up forward for us. To have that attribute for him is great for us.”

Jack Buckley – 20 disposals, 6 marks, 4 tackles

“Jack’s still learning the game, but he’s learning very quickly little different roles he’s been given, which is fantastic. On the weekend was just another example of that with him playing high half-forward.”

Tim Mohr – 16 disposals, 7 marks, 1 tackle

“We gave him another challenge to play on a player who plays up high, and he kept him to five touches while he was on him. It was a great effort by Mohry and he’s just one of those players that you know is going to get the job done when you ask them to do one.”

Matt Buntine – 16 disposals, 4 marks, 2 tackles

“Bunts is definitely someone I love to have in my side, he’s extremely courageous, goes back with the flight of the ball without hesitation and he did that well on the half-back flank. In the second half, we put him in the midfield to let him have a run around, and he was just very diligent and very reliable in there.”

Matt Flynn – 15 disposals, 5 marks

“Matt Flynn got a fair bit of it for us and gave us a lot of inside 50s, which gave us a chance to score.”

Brent Daniels – 12 disposals, 4 marks, 1 tackle

“Brent Daniels up forward had a tough day, the ball didn’t come down there a lot. But in his second game now, he’s showing some really good signs for us when the ball’s in hand. He’s still working on when the ball’s not in hand, becoming that small forward pressure player.”

Dawson Simpson – 7 disposals, 6 tackles, 3 marks

“Dawson had a big challenge against Thurlow, who is an experience ruckman for them, and I thought our rucks won the battle. Winning the hitouts was pleasing, but it was also pleasing that Dawson had six tackles, which is something he’s been working on. It was great to have a big man do that.”
