Let's not beat around the bush. We would love to have our banner being hoisted at the MCG tomorrow.

But with that not to be in 2018, we have a question for eagle-eyed footy fans…

Did you notice anything different about the GIANTS’ banners in 2018?

Well, for those looking closely you would have noticed a little theme throughout the highs and lows of the season.

Every banner started with a line from a well-known song.

The GIANTS have become a broad church in recent years so these banners couldn’t be too niche.

We might be a little biased, but we think the mystery man (he preferred “unassuming hero”, but we thought that was going too far) behind the banners has done a pretty decent job.

Seriously, from Elvis to David Bowie to Tay Tay – they all got their day in the sun (or under the lights).

These weren’t just randomly allocated. There was some serious thought included.

Prince’s classic ‘Purple Rain’ could only work against Fremantle. INXS was a lock for the game against Port Adelaide due to their affection for ‘Never Tear Us Apart.’

And after Jack Riewoldt’s heroics at the 2017 Toyota AFL Grand Final after party, Mr Brightside was a sure thing for when the GIANTS hosted the Tigers.

*We didn’t actually have a banner for Round 13, due to the bye. But see what we did there?

Any ideas for a 2019 theme?
