Jeremy Finlayson will remain a GIANT until at least the end of 2020.

This is home, I’ve been here for six years and the club stuck by me in those years.

Emerging defender Jeremy Finlayson has put pen to paper on a two-year contract extension that will see him remain at the GIANTS until at least the end of the 2020 season.

“This is home, I’ve been here for six years and the club stuck by me in those years,” Finlayson said.

“My manager and I got it done the other day while I was up in Darwin, I didn’t think twice about it.”

The 22-year-old GIANTS Academy graduate from Culcairn in the Riverina, joined the club with pick 85 of the 2014 NAB AFL Draft and has since debuting in 2017 has played 10 games.

“I don’t think I’d be here right now without the GIANTS Academy and what they’ve done for me,” he said.

“I’ve come from a small country town in Culcairn and the pathway that is the Academy gave me the chance to impress.”

Finlayson spent 2015 and 2016 developing his craft in the NEAFL, along the way being an integral part of the GIANTS’ Reserves NEAFL Premiership in 2016, before making his AFL debut in round 15 last year.

Impressive pre-season form saw him lock down a spot in the GIANTS’ backline for round one this year where he had a breakout start to the season with his long kicking and intercept marking in defence a highlight.

GIANTS List Manager Jason McCartney said he was pleased to re-sign one of the most promising young defenders in the competition.

“Jeremy has come a long way since he joined the GIANTS and we’re delighted he’s put pen to paper,” said McCartney.

“For a young indigenous kid to move away from home at the age he did to chase his dream can be really difficult and it speaks volumes of our football club that he feels at home here.

“We’re all really excited about what Jeremy can produce in the years to come.”

Finlayson joins a growing list of GIANTS to recommit to the club so far this year with Toby Greene, Phil Davis, Zac Langdon, Isaac Cumming, Aiden Bonar and Nick Shipley all putting pen to paper.
