GIANTS Chairman Tony Shepherd is pleased to announce Melissa Doyle has been appointed to the Club’s Board of Directors.

Ms Doyle has held a number of roles with the GIANTS in recent years including Chair of the GIANTS Foundation since 2013 as well as being the Club’s inaugural Number One ticket holder.

She was made a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) in 2016 for her “significant service to the community through representational roles with a range of charitable groups and to the broadcast media.”

“Mel is one of Australia’s most respected journalists and one of television’s most recognisable faces thanks to a long and distinguished media career with the Seven Network,” Mr Shepherd said.

“Her charity and community work has long been revered.”

Having joined the Board of Directors, Ms Doyle has relinquished her role as GIANTS Foundation Chair with Sydney businessman Mr Paul Lewis appointed as her successor.

Mr Lewis has headed up several highly respected companies over the past two decades and is currently on the Board of a number of prominent companies including Magellan Financial Group, Growth Mantra and the Cure Cancer Australia Foundation.

On behalf of the Board, Mr Shepherd welcomed Ms Doyle to the GIANTS Board.

“Mel is a wonderful addition to our Board and brings a wealth of experience from her time in the Australian media industry,” Mr Shepherd said.

“Mel and her family are passionate supporters of the Giants. She has been a strong advocate for the growth of our Club and the game more broadly. We thank her for her wonderful job as Chair of the GIANTS Foundation.

“Mel’s strong community focus will complement our Board and ensure we continue to actively engage a diverse set of communities in New South Wales and the ACT.

“My fellow Directors and I look forward to Mel making a significant contribution in the next phase of the Club’s growth.

Mr Shepherd also thanked Mr Lewis for accepting the role as Foundation Chair: “Paul’s network, acumen and experience in philanthropy will be a great advantage to the Giants Foundation going forward,” Mr Shepherd added. “

Ms Doyle said she was looking forward to joining the GIANTS Board.

“Having been involved with the GIANTS since day one, I’m delighted to be joining the Board,” Ms Doyle said.

“I’ve seen firsthand the growth of the Club and the game in New South Wales and Canberra and I’m excited to be given the opportunity to play a bigger role in the years ahead.

“I look forward to utilising a range of experiences from my background in media and the community to ensure the club continues to be well served from a governance perspective.”

Ms Doyle fills the Board position made available following the retirement of Mr John Webster as a Director.

On behalf of the Board, Mr Shepherd thanked Mr Webster for his invaluable contribution to the GIANTS as an inaugural Director of the Club.

“I congratulate and thank John for an outstanding tenure as a GIANTS Board member and his early work in the establishment of the Club,” Mr Shepherd said.

“John has played a leading role on the Board since day one, providing strong governance and support for the Club during the critical start-up phase.

“We will miss his calm and measured approach but we’re delighted he will be continuing with the Club as an independent member of our Community and Inclusion Committee.”

The GIANTS Foundation seeks to harness the power of sport to enhance the lives of many in the community through the four key pillars of the club’s community agenda: Employment, Health, Harmony and Education. For more information, click here.
