Young gun GIANTS midfielder Jacob Hopper has pledged his future to the club after signing a two-year contract extension.

One of the best up-and-coming midfielders in the game, Hopper is set to form a crucial part of the GIANTS midfield in the years to come after re-committing to the club he first joined in 2015.

Hopper has played the last four games leading into finals to take his games tally to 20 in his first two years.

The 20-year-old Academy product made the announcement in front of hundreds of GIANTS members and fans at the club’s open training session on Saturday at the WestConnex Centre.

“I love the club and how they’ve embraced me and my family so it was an easy decision to recommit,” said Hopper.

“This is my home and where I want to play football. I’m so excited for what’s to come with this group and I absolutely want to be a part of it.

“Heading into finals there is a really good buzz around the place and we’re all excited for the challenge ahead.”

GIANTS General Manager of Football Wayne Campbell said it was great to see Hopper re-commit.

“Having Jacob extend his contract on the eve of the finals is a real boost for the club,” said Campbell.

“He’s a great kid who has shown real leadership. He’s had some setbacks this season but we know it’s made him stronger and more resilient.

“We know what he’s capable of on the field and we are looking forward to seeing him go from strength to strength in the coming years.”

Hopper is a graduate of the GIANTS Academy, joining the club via pick seven in the NAB AFL Draft at the end of 2015.

The Leeton product made a stunning debut in 2016, collecting 32 possessions against Gold Coast and earning himself a NAB AFL Rising Star nomination.

The GIANTS take on Adelaide at the Adelaide Oval in a Qualifying Final this Thursday.
