GIANTS AFLW recruit Maddie Boyd is buzzing with excitement as she tours the WestConnex Centre for the first time last week.

The promising ruck/forward joined the GIANTS from Melbourne during the 2017 AFLW trade period in May and can’t wait to get started at her new club.

“The opportunity came up and I just thought why not,” she said about the move.

“It’s a good opportunity to try something different and see a different club’s sporting environment, and how they go about it so I thought yep let’s give it a crack.”

The 24-year-old, who stands at 178cm, played in all seven of Melbourne’s games during the inaugural AFLW season averaging 5.1 disposals per game and 5.6 hit outs as the Demons’ back up ruck.

Boyd said she can’t wait for the second AFLW season to get started and link up with new GIANTS AFLW head coach Alan McConnell.

“I was very honoured to be involved in that first season, it was an incredible opportunity and I’m looking forward to doing it all again,” she said.

“I had a chat to Al before and he seems like a great guy I can’t wait to work with him and learn from him.”

Boyd already has a small place in the history of the GIANTS’ inaugural AFLW season albeit not a place she’s too willing to remember.

“I knew that would come up again,” she said with a laugh when re-calling the GIANTS’ five point win over her former club at Blacktown International Sportspark.

“It was a bit disappointing for us to lose that game but it’s interesting how things work out as I’m at the GIANTS now.”
