As the GIANTS get set to head north for the first time this year to take on the Brisbane Lions at the Gabba, we take a look at the stats that could make the difference on Saturday afternoon.

The Lions take a clear home ground advantage into the game with their performances this year at the Gabba showing they get a lift from playing in front of a supportive home crowd.

This Gabba love is most evident when it comes to their ability to find and use the football.

When the Lions are on the road they average 24.7 disposals less than their opponents, but when they’re in Brisbane they average 11.7 more disposals than the visiting side.

Not only are they finding more of the footy at the Gabba but they’re using it well. The Lions average 46.7 inside 50’s when they travel but lift to 52.2 inside 50’s on home turf.

Their Gabba love continues into clearances with the Lions winning 8.6 more clearances than their opponents at home, compared to winning just one more clearance than their opponents away.

The inside 50 statistics is one that the GIANTS will really want to keep an eye on with the Lions one of the most efficient teams once the ball goes inside the arc.

Over the past month they sit in fourth in the competition for scores per inside 50’s with 49.7 per cent of their forward entries ending in a score of some form.

Even on the edge of 50 they are dangerous with 18.9 per cent of their scores coming from outside 50 ranking them second in the AFL. This lifts even higher to 22.3 per cent when they’re at the Gabba.

The two Daynes (Beams and Zorko) have been in fine form over the past month. Beams leads the competition for winning contested ball while sitting second in the competition for loose ball gets and clearances.

Zorko sits on top of the competition for inside 50’s over the past month, third for loose ball gets and inside the top ten for both kicks and clearances.
