The GIANTS reserves will use this week’s bye to regroup after a heavy loss to the Swans Reserves at Blacktown International Sportspark.

The strong Swans side boasting 20 AFL-listed players led the undermanned GIANTS from start to finish, winning 28.17 (185) to 2.2 (14).

After conceding 16 goals in the first half, an error at the main break saw the GIANTS score wiped before the third term got underway when a head count was called.

Slippery conditions were difficult to navigate from the outset, with the Swans’ Robbie Fox colliding with his teammate James Rose early on, forcing the rookie to the sidelines.

The GIANTS put their first goal on the board just minutes out from three-quarter time through ruckman Dawson Simpson who had a tough tussle against Swans big man Kurt Tippett for the majority of the day.

Top-up player Daniel Johnston was the only other goal kicker for the GIANTS, booting his major in the fourth term.

Jeremy Finlayson continued his run of good form, collecting a game high 34 disposals in tough conditions while Tendai Mzungu again made progress in his return from a hamstring injury, collecting 18 disposals despite being tagged closely by Swans rookie Ollie Florent.

The GIANTS Reserves next match is against Brisbane Reserves on Saturday, June 24.
