The GIANTS have agreed to a trade that will see promising Melbourne forward/ ruck Maddie Boyd join the club in exchange for pick 33 in the 2017 NAB AFLW Draft.

The 24-year-old played in all seven of Melbourne’s games in the inaugural AFLW season, averaging 5.1 disposals per game and 5.6 hit outs as the Demon’s back up ruck.

Boyd, who stands at 178cm, was recruited from the North Geelong Magpies with pick 120 of the 2016 NAB AFLW draft and is studying Exercise and Sports Science at Deakin University.

The GIANTS have also re-signed some of their best local talent for the upcoming AFLW season, confirming nine more additions to the squad for 2018.

Captain Amanda Farrugia returns to the club after the Macquarie University Warriors player was unanimously voted to lead the GIANTS in their inaugural season.

Penrith defender Renee Tomkins - who finished second in the Gabrielle Trainor Medal for the GIANTS’ Club Champion - has re-signed with the GIANTS, alongside third-placed ACT midfielder Britt Tully.

NAB AFLW Rising Star nominee Erin McKinnon will also stay a GIANT, as well as Canberra United W-League co-captain Ellie Brush who was on the club’s rookie list for her first-ever taste of AFL football in 2017.

Young midfielder Maddy Collier, who was named in the GIANTS’ inaugural leadership group, has also put pen to paper, as well as physical forward Jacinda Barclay.

They’re joined by Victorians Louise Stephenson and Phoebe McWilliams, and West Australian Aimee Schmidt in opting to return to Sydney to continue their careers as GIANTS players.

The club also holds picks 5, 17, 25 in October’s 2017 NAB AFLW Draft.
