GIANTS star Steve Johnson looks certain to play in this week's derby against the Swans after training strongly on Wednesday.

Johnson missed the GIANTS' round four win over Port Adelaide with knee soreness, but looked untroubled at training during his side's main session of the week that lasted around 90 minutes.

The 2007 Norm Smith medallist pulled up sore from the GIANTS' round three trip to Tasmania, where they accounted for North Melbourne by 42 points, and how he recovers from Wednesday's hit-out could be a factor when Leon Cameron picks his 22 to take on Sydney at the SCG on Saturday.

The GIANTS will train again at the Swans' home ground on Friday.

The news was also good for Dylan Shiel and Heath Shaw, with the pair showing no sign of the niggles they picked up against the Power.

Shiel sent a scare through the GWS camp when he came from the field during the third quarter clutching his already strapped right shoulder, but after spending some time on the bench, he returned to play out the game.

The recently re-signed 24-year-old had no problem with some spirited tackling drills and will be a serious threat for the Sydney midfield this week.

Shaw was in a similar boat to Shiel when he limped off in the third term with a corked shin, but the dual All Australian defender also came back on and played as a forward for the rest of the match.

The 2015 club champion left the track early on Wednesday but is in no doubt for this week's 12th Sydney derby.
