Some of the GIANTS young leaders have spent the evening learning from one of Australia’s greatest sporting leaders, Steve Waugh.

The former Test cricket captain has had a long association with the GIANTS, often sharing his knowledge and experience with GIANTS players and staff over the years.

Leadership coach Nick Maxwell has been working with eight of the GIANTS young leaders who are in their first to fourth years at the club.

The group is made up of Lachie Whitfield, Aidan Corr, Rory Lobb, Josh Kelly, Jack Steele, Caleb Marchbank, Jacob Hopper and Matthew Kennedy.

Maxwell said it was a valuable session with Waugh.

“We’ve been doing a bit of work with the Young Leaders Group and introducing them to different leaders from a range of fields as they find their own leadership style,” said Maxwell.

“Steve was more than accommodating with his time with our guys which will be of great benefit to them.

“He’s had phenomenal success as a leader and there is no one better for our guys to learn off.”

The GIANTS have had great success in recent years by introducing young players to leadership programs with Stephen Coniglio, Devon Smith, Dylan Shiel and Matthew Buntine moving into the leadership group during the 2016 pre-season.

As well as sharing his leadership knowledge, Waugh has a strong link with the GIANTS via the Steve Waugh Foundation which is an important community partner of the club.
