New recruit and three-time premiership player Steve Johnson will debut for the GIANTS in Friday night’s NAB Challenge clash against the Swans.

The 253-game veteran is among 10 experienced players included in the GIANTS’ squad to face the Swans at Drummoyne Oval in Sydney on Friday night.

Led by co-captains Phil Davis and Callan Ward, along with Shane Mumford, Heath Shaw, Ryan Griffen and Jeremy Cameron, coach Leon Cameron has named a very strong line-up for the club’s second NAB Challenge game.

Young guns Dylan Shiel, Devon Smith and Toby Greene have also all been named in the 29-man squad, which will be trimmed to 26 on game day.

Coach Cameron said Friday’s match will be a competitive hit-out with round one only three weeks away.

“Last week gave us an opportunity to see some of our younger guys but this week’s match is a chance to get some game time into our more experienced players,” Cameron said.

“With the Swans naming a strong line-up as well, it’s going to be a tough and fierce battle, as it always is against our cross-town rivals.

“This is our only pre-season game in Sydney so it’s a great opportunity for our members to see our stars in action before the real stuff begins.”

The GIANTS take on the Swans at Drummoyne Oval in Sydney’s inner west on Friday night at 7.10pm.
