The Greater Western Sydney GIANTS have today reached agreement with the Richmond Football Club to exchange midfielder Jacob Townsend and a seventh round selection (currently pick 120) for the Tiger’s fourth round selection (currently pick 70) in next month’s NAB AFL Draft.

Townsend played 28 games for the GIANTS over four years after joining the club in 2010 as an NSW-ACT zone selection.

Injury hampered Townsend’s 2015 AFL season with the 22-year-old managing one game for the GIANTS in Round 23 against Melbourne.

GIANTS General Manager Football Graeme Allan said the club was proud to play a major role in developing the 22-year-old who hails from Leeton in the NSW Riverina.

“Jacob was one of our first NSW-ACT zone selections and his story reflects the ongoing need for talent pathways in that region,” Allan said.

“He played 11 games in his first season but has since seen limited opportunities at senior level. We wish Jacob well and thank him for his contribution over the past four seasons."

Earlier today the GIANTS also signed unrestricted free agent Dawson Simpson from the Geelong Cats while defender Curtly Hampton was traded to the Adelaide Crows for a future draft pick.

The GIANTS currently hold picks, 8, 27, 45, 63, 70, 81 and 99 at next month’s NAB AFL Draft in addition to Adelaide’s future second-round pick in the 2016 NAB AFL Draft.
