Everyone knows GIANTS players are talented footballers but how much do you really know about their lives off the field? Read these Fast Five facts about ruckman Tom Downie.

Sneaky Toddler – When I was 18 months old I managed to escape under the front fence and started walking down the street until our neighbours noticed and returned me to my parents. Not sure how I squeezed through, I was pretty chubby back in the day.

Claim to Fame – I used to play basketball for Australia in the Under-17s and went up against Bradley Beal, Andre Drummond and Michael Kidd-Gilchrist who are now all NBA players.

Forced Fed – I have Lebanese grandparents who used to cook up an endless amounts of food for a Christmas Day roast. My Grandma would keep offering me food – up to five or six times – and I wasn’t able to leave until it was gone.

Prized Possession – As a kid my favourite toy was a teddy bear called “two dollar” because we bought him from an op shop for two dollars.

Four-String Sensation – I’ve been playing bass guitar since I was 13. Occasionally I have a jam with five other guys from the club who are also keen musicians.

This regular series of player stories aims to bring GIANTS fans closer to their heroes by giving a snap-shot into their private lives.
