As the GIANTS prepare to play their 50th club game against fellow expansion side the Gold Coast Suns on Saturday, midfielder Tomas Bugg can see the similarities between the two sides.

“We’re a similar age, they’ve got experienced players and a lot of youth in their list and so do we,” Bugg said.

“I think that brings a lot of energy to the group and a big chance for young guys to play games and get experience.”

Coming off a big loss to Adelaide at Adelaide Oval, Bugg said the GIANTS are ready to travel to the Gold Coast to face the Suns after a big training session on Wednesday afternoon.

“Training was really good, really energetic,” Bugg said.

“We obviously had a bad loss but we’re looking forward to this week against the Gold Coast. They’re a young side, we’re a young side, so it should be a good battle.

“It’s at their home ground so they have a good supporter base up there, they’re a really good side and really progressing well, as are we, so we’re just looking for a good contest.”

The GIANTS have two wins to start the season and while the players are obviously pleased by the improvement from last season, Bugg said the wins were important for faithful GIANTS fans as well.

“It’s really positive for the fans and supporters and members of the GIANTS, to see that we’re progressing and we’ve got two wins which is already double what we had last year,” he said.

“Hopefully we can get a few more wins before the season’s end.”

Bugg signed with the GIANTS at just 17, while still at school at Caulfield Grammar in Melbourne, as one of the club’s 12 pre-listed players. As someone who has been at the club since the start, Bugg has seen how far the GIANTS have come in their first 50 games.

“We’ve made massive improvements, not only on-field but off-field,” he said.

“We’re in our facility now which is really good and I think the boys are really at home here.

“50 games is a really good milestone for the club and I think we’re just moving forward.”

With 37 games under his belt, including all five matches this year, the number 14 is relishing a new role in 2014.

“I’m playing a different role now, I’m playing on the wing and really enjoying it and just being involved a bit more up the ground is really good and I think our midfield is going really well so far.”
