GIANTS defender Joel Patfull will be sidelined for at least a month after a heavy collision in the third term of Sunday’s match against Collingwood.

Patfull has suffered two broken ribs and a punctured lung but scans late on Sunday in Melbourne have cleared the 30-year old of any shoulder damage.

GIANTS Head of Athletic Performance David Joyce said:

“Joel stayed the night in Melbourne and has been receiving the very best care for his injury.

“He was clearly in a lot of pain after the incident but is now comfortable and recovering well.

“Our number one priority right now is Joel’s welfare and we should get a clearer indication of his recovery time in the coming days.”

Meanwhile, the GIANTS expect scans to confirm that co-captain Phil Davis has suffered an ankle syndesmotic injury.

Davis suffered the injury late in the second term and did not return to the field after half time.

Ruckman Shane Mumford (ankle) and midfielder Stephen Coniglio (AC joint) both sat out most of the final term of the game at the MCG.

Davis, Mumford and Coniglio will all see specialists in Sydney in the next 24 hours to determine the extent of the injuries.

A full injury report will be on gwsgiants.com.au on Tuesday evening.
