GIANTS recruit Brett Deledio will be managed conservatively after sustaining a minor calf injury that will see him miss the opening stages of the forthcoming JLT Community Series.

Deledio, who joined the GIANTS after 243 games at Richmond, will have his short-term training reduced due to calf tightness.

The GIANTS’ medical staff remain confident that Deledio’s preparations for the 2017 season are on track.

“We’ll be taking a conservative approach to managing Brett’s calf to maximise his availability during the season,” said GIANTS Head of Athletic Performance David Joyce.

“He’s a competitor and we couldn’t be happier with how Brett has performed since arriving at the club in November.

“Brett will maintain his strength program but will have his running loads reduced in the short term as we look to build up his training again over the next three weeks. We expect him to play a role in the later stages of the JLT Community Series."

The GIANTS begin their 2017 JLT Community Series in Narrandera against West Coast on Saturday, February 18.
