The GIANTS coaching staff for 2014 is quickly taking shape with Assistant Coaches James McDonald and Luke Power headlining a number of key football personnel re-committing to the club.

With Kevin Sheedy handing over to Leon Cameron after the last game against the Gold Coast Suns, the new Head Coach has wasted no time assembling his team.

Veteran Assistant Coach Alan McConnell, NEAFL Coach Brett Hand and Welfare Manager Craig Lambert and his wife Melissa will also continue on at the GIANTS.

This comes shortly after Chad Cornes and Dean Brogan were announced as taking on full time coaching roles following their playing retirement this season.

Speaking at the Kevin Sheedy Medal on Saturday night, Cameron said that with 90% of the GIANTS playing group locked away on long-term contracts, it was important to secure the support staff.

“It’s been absolutely outstanding (to have the staff re-commit), and it shows that we’re heading in the right direction,” said Cameron.

“From outside people are going to look at 2013 externally as a failure. Inside the walls of the GIANTS it hasn’t been. We’ve achieved a number of things in terms of the way we play.

“We play a whole new game style from last year. We score more, we’ve had another six or seven plays make their debut thanks to Kevin Sheedy, in all he’s blooded 46 young players for this football club that will hold us in good stead in the future.

Before joining the GIANTS as Senior Assistant Coach for the 2012 season, Cameron spent nine years as an Assistant Coach at the Western Bulldogs and Hawthorn.

The 41-year old says he's excited about the challenges facing the GIANTS in 2014.

“As senior coach I can’t wait until next year. Because of the confidence I have in this young group, the confidence I have in the staff members to carry this group forward and win a lot more games next year is one thing I’m absolutely looking forward to,” he said.
