Newly appointed development coach Amon Buchanan says he sees a big future for the GIANTS’ young list.

Buchanan joins Leon Cameron’s coaching panel having played 134 AFL games for Sydney and Brisbane, including the Swans premiership in 2005. He says he can’t wait to start his new role at the GIANTS.

“It’s a really exciting list with heaps and heaps of talent which is on the march forward,” said Buchanan. “Going forward there are more expectations but I’m really looking forward to working with the group.

“My role will be to work closely with the younger guys, and more closely with a certain smaller group, and try to help fast track their development, spend a lot of time with them, get to know them and try to impart some of my experience and knowledge on them.”

The 31 year old has had a variety of coaching roles in the past 12 months at the Swans Academy, the NSW/ACT Rams under 16 & 18s as well as a catching and kicking coach with NRL clubs Parramatta and the Roosters.

It will be a Brisbane Lions reunion of sorts for Buchanan who’ll link up again with triple premiership player Luke Power and welfare manager Craig Lambert

“I’m really looking forward to working with those two boys (Power and Lambert) again. I know how good those two blokes are at their job and how well respected they are in footy circles so it will be really good.”
