The UWS GIANTS have named their side playing Aspley in a NEAFL Preliminary Final at Blacktown International Sportspark on Saturday from 12pm.

The winner of the match will progress through to the NEAFL Grand Final next week against either NT Thunder or Sydney University.

Despite losing the corresponding match last year, UWS GIANTS coach Brett Hand said he was confident in his side’s ability.

“Aspley are a hardened finals football team and are probably the most successful club going around in the NEAFL,” Hand said.

“They know what it takes and have some bigger bodies so no doubt they’ll be a tough opponent.

“We’ve got a different group of players this year and a different attitude towards the game.

“It’s a great opportunity for us to make the Grand Final for the first time so there’s a sense of excitement at the club.”

The two sides are evenly poised on an overall win-loss record of 1-1.

Last year’s Preliminary Final was the first time they crossed paths, but the Giants reversed the result with a 94-point thumping earlier this season.

“We’ve had some good training sessions this week so the feeling around the place is good,” Hand said.

“I don’t think there will be any stand out performances tomorrow but as long as everyone plays their role then that’s all we can ask.

“Obviously we encourage all GIANTS fans to get along to the game to show their support.”

According to NEAFL rules, with the UWS GIANTS playing a non-AFL club in the finals, the side are limited to 15 listed players for this week’s game.

The GIANTS must also play three under-18 Academy players as part of their top-ups.

The final will also be live-streamed on neafl.com.au from 12pm.

Entry to the match is $10 but children under 16 can enter for free.
