Background: Matt Buntine was selected by the GIANTS with pick 5 in the 2011 NAB AFL Draft. He made his debut in Round 8, 2012 v Brisbane.

Best Game: Round 15 v St Kilda - 17 touches, 3 marks, 6 rebound-50s, 9 one-percenters.

Summary: It was a big year for Matt Buntine who added 11 AFL games to his career tally and would have played more if it wasn’t for some nasty concussions. Buntine got his first senior opportunity in Round 6 against Hawthorn and played the next 10 matches with some impressive efforts in defence. Unfortunately back-to-back head-knocks in his last two matches in round 16 (Gold Coast) and round 18 (Fremantle) ended his season early. Buntine also re-signed with the club this season, making him a GIANT until at least the end of 2017.

Pat On The Back: This season the 22-year-old was forced to play on bigger opponents to help cover other injured defenders and relished the challenge.

What They Said: “Sometimes Matty Buntine can be too courageous for his own good” - GIANTS Coach Leon Cameron.

Look Ahead: Despite several injuries it was actually a very positive season for Buntine who gained wide-spread respect for his courage in the air and composure with the ball. Playing a full season will be Buntine’s main goal in 2016.
