The GIANTS would like to thank our members and fans who attended the club’s first home game of the season on Saturday evening against the Gold Coast Suns at Spotless Stadium.

Given Spotless Stadium was in preparation mode for the Royal Easter Show – which impacted capacity and accessibility for patrons – the attendance of our loyal GIANTS supporters was greatly appreciated.

The scheduling of GIANTS home games at Spotless Stadium is dependent on when Easter falls on an annual basis and the club was pleased to be able to play a home game in Sydney in round 2 this year – several weeks earlier than previous seasons. We have appreciated the support of the Royal Agricultural Society of NSW and the Sydney Olympic Park Authority in enabling this to happen during preparations for the 2017 Royal Easter Show.

GIANTS Chief Executive David Matthews thanked those in attendance for Saturday’s game against fellow expansion club the Suns.

“GIANTS fans in Sydney have been starved of seeing their team play early in the season in recent years, so we were delighted to be able to play at Spotless Stadium before the venue is unavailable to us due to the Royal Easter Show,” Mr Matthews said.

“Despite Spotless Stadium taking on a different look this week due to the set-up of the Easter Show - including changes to normal seating areas and access to gates and parking - our loyal fans still turned out to take part in a memorable evening.

“We had anticipated an overall attendance on the lower end of the scale for this game given the Suns obviously don't have a strong supporter base in New South Wales – which we’re sure will come over time – the recent poor weather in Sydney and the constraints on the venue for this particular fixture.

“Our return to Spotless Stadium next month will see us take on some of the AFL’s biggest clubs in the space of a month, including home games against Collingwood, Richmond and Essendon.

“More immediately we’re looking forward to playing our next two home games at UNSW Canberra Oval against Port Adelaide and the Western Bulldogs in blockbuster match-ups.”

The GIANTS take on North Melbourne at Blundstone Arena, Hobart this Saturday at 1.45pm.
