Vice-captain Stephen Coniglio is eyeing a return to the field this weekend, facing a fitness test to line up for his first game since round eight.

Coniglio is one of five players facing tests this week, including star forward Jeremy Cameron (hamstring) and Matt de Boer (concussion).

Cameron was a late withdrawal from Saturday’s loss to the Swans with coach Leon Cameron opting not to risk the goal kicker.

De Boer copped an elbow to the ear in the opening quarter that required stitches and left him unable to return to the game with concussion.

Along with Sam Reid - who missed round 17 with a minor ankle injury - the quartet will aim to complete full training later this week in a bid to return to the playing field this weekend.

With an eight day break, the GIANTS will hold their main training session on Thursday morning before naming the 25-man squad to take on the Tigers later that night.

Young defender Harry Himmelberg is also nearing a return from a broken finger sustained in round 14. Having spent some time on the sidelines, both Himmelberg and Coniglio may return via the NEAFL with the GIANTS Reserves taking on Sydney University at Blacktown International Sportspark on Saturday.

In further good news, Adam Kennedy completed his first running session since his knee reconstruction in early May just three weeks after fellow defender Matt Buntine.

The GIANTS take on the Tigers in their only regular-season game at the MCG this Sunday, July 23 at 1.10pm with live coverage on 7mate in NSW and the ACT and Fox Footy all around Australia.
