GIANTS ruckman Shane Mumford will be sidelined for four weeks due to an elbow injury.

Mumford underwent surgery on Friday to remove some floating bone in his right elbow.

GIANTS Head of Athletic Performance David Joyce said the operation went to plan.

“The surgery was a success and we don’t expect Shane to have any ongoing issues,” said Joyce.

“Shane has had a really good pre-season to date and has hardly missed a beat, so we’re confident this shouldn’t affect his preparation for the Premiership season.

“We’ll monitor Shane closely and expect him to take his place in the later parts of the JLT Community Series.”

The 30-year old played 23 games in 2016 and finished equal 8th in the Kevin Sheedy medal in his third season at the GIANTS.

The GIANTS play their first JLT Community Series game in Narrandera on February 18 against West Coast followed by matches against Sydney (Blacktown on March 3) and North Melbourne (Canberra on March 10).

Round of the Toyota AFL Premiership Season sees the GIANTS play Adelaide in Adelaide on Sunday, March 26.
