More than 40 young leaders from refugee and migrant backgrounds have taken part in the Multicultural Youth Advocacy Network’s FUSE Summit at the GIANTS’ Learning Life Centre.

The three-day event aims to develop advocacy and leadership skills in young people.

Participants took part in seminars, workshops and a panel discussion with state and federal politicians, Senator Concetta Fierravanti-Wells, Craig Laundy MP and Matt Keen MP. National Children’s Commissioner Megan Mitchell was also in attendance.

GIANTS Community Engagement Manager Ali Faraj said the club was proud to support the multicultural youth conference.

“The summit was an opportunity for people to have their voice heard on issues concerning youths in the community,” Faraj said.

“There was a good discussion about current policy and what can be done to improve the situation for refugees and migrants in Australia.

“At the GIANTS we embrace all multicultural communities and we were happy to be involved in the summit today.”

The aim of the Multicultural Youth Advocacy Network (MYAN) is to ensure people from refugee and migrant backgrounds are recognised in both the government and non-government sectors. MYAN Australia also lobby for targeted, multicultural youth-specialist support.
