The UWS GIANTS have recorded their seventh straight win, defeating Gold Coast Reserves by 55 points at Blacktown International Sportspark.

The GIANTS trailed by 21 points at quarter time but wrestled back control of the match to retain top spot on the NEAFL ladder.

UWS GIANTS coach Brett Hand said he was pleased to see his side respond after a slow start.

“I was a bit disappointed with our stoppage work early but Mark Whiley worked his way into the game and was really solid after quarter time,” Hand said.

“Nathan Wilson was really good offensively across half-back which provided a lot of run and drive while Josh Hunt also had a consistent game.

“Tom Boyd finished with two goals but also created a couple of opportunities for us as well after getting a fair bit of the ball.”

Six members of the PM Capital GIANTS Academy were selected as top-up players including rising star Jesse Mudge, who kicked two goals.

The highlight of the match came in the final term when forward live-wire Liam Sumner took a spectacular mark on the shoulders of his opponent.

“Liam’s known for taking a few screamers and the mark was there to take… I’m just impressed he managed to bring it down,” Hand said.

The UWS GIANTS face Sydney University at Spotless Stadium next Saturday at 4pm in a curtain raiser to the GIANTS vs Geelong clash.
