Dashing defender Cambridge McCormick has capped a career-best season with a maiden All-Australian squad selection.
McCormick joins Zarlie Goldsworthy, fresh from winning the 2025 Gabrielle Trainor Medal as the GIANTS’ club champion, in the 42-player squad which represent the AFLW’s best players across the season.
A first for McCorrmick, the selection is Goldsworthy's second, having also been named in the 2023 extended squad.
Originally from Queensland’s Sunshine Coast, McCormick played football on the NSW North Coast for Port Macquarie, where the league’s best and fairest medal was named in her honour earlier this year.
She moved to Eastlake FC in Canberra to chase her AFLW dream in 2021 and was drafted out of the competition ahead of the GIANTS’ 2022 (S7) season.
McCormick averaged 16.6 disposals, 2.9 marks, 1.0 intercept marks, 2.8 spoils and 2.4 rebound 50s per game and led all key defenders across the entire competition for inside 50s, tackles and disposals, while also finishing second in her position for meters gained.
She also delivered one of the GIANTS’ best moments of the season with her first AFLW career goal, belting the ball home from inside the centre square for a major.
There’s been plenty of focus on Goldsworthy’s starring season, after an early injury to inside midfielder Alyce Parker triggered her switch from the forward line to spending more time on the ball in 2025.
Showing maturity beyond her 20 years, Goldsworthy’s second Gabrielle Trainor Medal came off the back of a season average of 21.2 disposals, 11.4 contested possessions, 3.4 clearances, 6.2 tackles, and 3.5 score involvements a game.
She set a new career-best performance in her round six Sydney Derby outing, registering 31 disposals, nine tackles and a goal at 100% of game time.
GIANTS’ Executive General Manager of AFLW, Alison Zell, extended her congratulations to both Goldsworthy and McCormick on their impressive seasons.
“Zarlie and Cambridge have been immense for us throughout the season and we are proud of how they represent the club both on-and-off field,” Zell said.
“Both players exemplify the GIANTS values of all in, fearless and competitor and have been some of our most consistent performers in 2025.
“We are ecstatic to have them committed to the club and as leaders for our young group.
“This is an incredibly well-deserved achievement and I extend my congratulations to them both on the honour.”
The AFLW All Australian team will be selected by a panel of 11 judges, including AFL CEO Andrew Dillon, Hall of Famer Erin Phillips and newcomer, and AFL Media journalist Michael Whiting.
The final team will be announced at the W Awards in the week leading up to the NAB AFLW 2025 Grand Final on Saturday, November 29.
