Debutant Ryan Angwin will undergo surgery tonight after suffering a fractured tibia during Saturday’s loss to the Western Bulldogs.

Angwin played his first game against the Bulldogs before injuring his lower leg in the third quarter. Scans revealed a fracture in the tibia which will see him sidelined for the next eight weeks.

In-form forward James Peatling will also miss the next 2-3 weeks after sustaining a low-grade hamstring strain during the game.

“It’s disappointing for both Ryan and James,” GIANTS Head of Medical James Rahme said.

"Ryan showed great courage to try and play out the game with what turned out to be a fracture in his leg and he was still able to contribute for much of the half. He’ll undergo surgery today and will attack his rehab with the same determination.

“JP was also ruled out of the game on Saturday night after reporting some tightness in his hamstring, with scans revealing a low-grade strain.”

Braydon Preuss will miss this week due to suspension but has been cleared of any serious damage to his ankle.

The ruckman was subbed out of the match in the second quarter but is expected to be available for selection in round 16 against the Hawks.

Fellow ruck Matt Flynn is also unavailable after being a late withdrawal from round 14 with a left quad injury which will sideline him for the next 2-3 weeks.

The GIANTS could be boosted by the return of forward Daniel Lloyd against Collingwood on Sunday. The goal kicker will see a specialist tomorrow to clear him to return to full contact training. Pending his clearance and passing all tests this week, he’ll be available for selection against the Magpies.

Meanwhile, midfielder Matt de Boer remains under concussion protocols and will miss Sunday’s match while Kieren Briggs missed the GIANTS’ VFL match on Sunday with illness but will return to training early this week.
