Experienced defender Tanya Hetherington and emerging youngsters Brodee Mowbray, Georgie Fowler and Casidhe Simmons have all signed one-year deals with the GIANTS ahead of the upcoming season.

The group bring a range of experience and complement the list the GIANTS are starting to compile for season seven.

Key defender, Tanya Hetherington, returns for her sixth season, with the 36-gamer one of the most experienced players on the GIANTS’ list.

The 37-year-old re-signs with the club coming off arguably her best season to date, averaging 9.7 disposals, 1.9 marks and leading the club’s rebound 50s.

Brodee Mowbray was drafted to the GIANTS at pick 55 in the 2021 NAB AFLW Draft and played two games in her debut season, including the historic win over the Western Bulldogs in round four at Henson Park.

The 19-year-old is known as a tough, naturally competitive and aggressive player. A raw talent still crafting her game, Mowbray has a reputation for being a strong tackler and being able to hunt the ball well.

Another young talent part of the historic Henson Park win was medium-forward Georgie Fowler.

The former Rugby 7s player is another local talent hailing from the East Coast Eagles, with the 18-year-old reliant on her powerful running, contested work and goal kicking ability.

After two-games in her debut season, Casidhe Simmons also returns to the orange and charcoal for season seven of the NAB AFLW competition.

The former heptathlete featured in the GIANTS’ round four win as well as being selected for the season-defining match against Carlton in Canberra.

The 27-year-old demonstrates natural speed and athleticism and is an exciting prospect for the GIANTS this season.

GIANTS Head of Women’s Football, Briana Harvey, said she was pleased to retain the group.

“These girls are an exciting bunch,” said Harvey.

“It’s great to have Tanya return, I think she had one of her best seasons last year and whilst we have so far only seen a little of what the other three have to offer on the field, we believe they have great potential and can really flourish in our program this year.”

Hetherington, Mowbray, Fowler and Simmons join 16 players already committed for season seven.

Season seven of the NAB AFLW competition begins in August, with pre-season commencing next week.
