GIANTS Academy product Isaac Cumming, from Broken Hill, joined the GIANTS with pick 20 of the 2016 NAB AFL Draft. A 183cm, 72kg defender with elite disposal and exciting pace, Cumming ranked in the top ten for the kicking and clean hands tests at the NAB AFL Draft Combine. Cumming had an impressive 2017 playing for the GIANTS in the NEAFL, winning the NEAFL Development Award. He made his AFL debut in 2018, playing two games.‚Äč

The GIANTS Academy product was ideally placed to step into replace the departed Nathan Wilson (Fremantle) and the injured Zac Williams (achilles) last year, but pre-season niggles saw him miss his opportunity early. After consistent form in the NEAFL, he made his debut in round eight with 14 possessions against West Coast, but was dropped two weeks later and spent the rest of the season at the lower level. The running backman is aiming for a consistent spot in the senior defence.

The 2016 draftee from the GIANTS Academy took time to find his feet but finished his debut season brilliantly, winning the GIANTS’ NEAFL development award after averaging 21.5 possessions and 3.5 tackles in 15 games. Cumming is lightly built and has plenty of work to do in the gym, but reads the game well across half-back and uses the ball efficiently. With Nathan Wilson gone and Heath Shaw nearing the end of his career, Cumming is sure to get opportunities at senior level this year, after being named as an emergency in the latter stages of 2017.

The Academy product moved up the draft order after the season and his quality foot skills and elite speed make him a fantastic prospect. Cumming looks best suited to playing across half-back and he will have plenty of outstanding mentors in Heath Shaw, Zac Williams and Nathan Wilson.
