Experienced duo Stephen Coniglio and Matt de Boer are in the frame for an AFL return after impressing in the GIANTS' 40-point win over the Gold Coast Suns in the VFL at ETU Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Coniglio has spent the past two weeks in the VFL as he continues to build fitness following surgery to repair a syndesmosis injury and reconstruct a big toe on the same foot.

Veteran De Boer again impressed after being omitted from the senior side a fortnight ago, registering 32 disposals, three goals and four tackles.

Zach Sproule, who has played five games at AFL level this year, impressed kicking five goals alongside Jake Riccardi who kicked three.

Tanner Bruhn (29 disposals, two goals) and Xavier O'Halloran (26 disposals, four tackles) also put in impressive performances as they look to work their way back into the GIANTS' AFL side.

GIANTS VFL coach Luke Kelly credited the win to his side’s impressive first half.

"I was really pleased with the way we started, we were really strong throughout the first half," Kelly said.

"Obviously losing a couple of players early didn't help, but the way we reacted was first class.

"We were able to play a consistent brand of GIANTS football with our contested work and pressure on the ball really setting us up to score throughout the game."

Ryan Angwin

11 disposals, 2 marks

"Ryan started the game really well. He's continuing to build on his consistency with his wing role and it was really disappointed to lose him through injury late in the first half."

Kieren Briggs

8 disposals, 29 hit-outs

"I thought Kieren and Matt Flynn worked really well together. We love what Briggs brings to our midfield, not only in the ruck but his follow up work was great."

Callum Brown

9 disposals, 5 marks

"Callum continues to build consistency defensively. He's continuing to put himself in good positions to have an impact."

Tanner Bruhn

29 disposals, 2 goals

"Another really strong performance both inside and down forward from Tanner. His cleanliness around the contest mixed with his hardness gave us great drive and it was pleasing to see him hit the scoreboard as well."

James Peatling

25 disposals, 6 marks

"Defensively JP's found a level of consistency we're really impressed with. He didn't have the day he would've liked with the ball in hand but we loved his ability to never shy away from the contest. He had a massive contest late which highlights how courageous he is."

Matt Buntine

18 disposals, 8 marks

"Another consistent and strong defensive game from an experienced leader. Matt continues to grow offensively with his impact in driving us forward."

Stephen Coniglio

35 disposals, 7 tackles

"Clearly a really strong game from Cogs. He started well and lead the way from the front again with the ball in hand and his tackling ability. The most pleasing facet of his game was how he responded and lifted the team when we were challenged in the third quarter."

Matt De Boer

32 disposals, 3 goals

"Another outstanding four quarters from Matt. His consistency inside and his work rate from contest to contest was vital. Pleasing he got some reward on the scoreboard."

Matt Flynn

11 disposals, 28 hit-outs

"Similar to Briggs, they both had strong moments in the ruck and at ground level. He was really strong in the air and it was a good learning curve for him to see out the game in trying conditions."

Sam Frost

9 disposals, 2 tackles

"Sam competed really strongly. He defended well and fights life and death for us down back. He's continuing to add to his offensive game at this level."

Josh Green

14 disposals, 6 marks

"Due to our numbers we moved Josh down back where his starting positions and defensive work were really strong and consistent. He adapted quickly and was really strong down back."

Harry Grintell

9 disposals, 2 tackles

"Harry's pressure was outstanding throughout the day. His pressure and ability to chase was vital. He really helped us in the front half, a really good small forward performance."

Tom Hutchesson

Injured

"Really disappointed to lose Hutch so early. Hopefully we will see him again soon."

Fraser Kelly

8 disposals, 1 tackle

"Starting to look more consistent and stronger at the level. Fraser brings a level of work rate that'll always keep him in the contest. We love what he's bringing in terms of his pressure, chase and contest work."

Maximus Monaghan

14 disposals, 5 tackles

"Really strong game from Max. We were impressed with his work rate, his want to tackle, and his ability to look for a contest. His cleanliness and ability to absorb at this level will hold him in good stead going forward."

Xavier O’Halloran

26 disposals, 4 tackles

"Xavier is another one who is playing a really consistent brand of football. His strength in the contest to give us drive out of the middle is crucial for us. His work rate and ability to get to contest to contest allows our offensive game to come to the forefront, really impressed."

Jake Riccardi

3 goals, 7 marks

"His work rate all day was great. His ability to provide a strong aerial contest was good, and his ability to join in defensively was really pleasing. The goals were an added bonus."

Will Shaw

Injured

"Disappointed to lose Will so early into the contest. Hopefully we see him again soon."

Nick Shipley

24 disposals, 7 marks

"His first game since returning from concussion, Shipley played the majority of his game on the wing which is a real strength to have the ability to go from the inside to those roles and do it well. He was able to get more ball on the outside and drive us forward. He had to absorb some big game time and played really well."

Zach Sproule

5 goals, 5 tackles

"What we love most about Sproule at the moment is his defensive work and work rate. He brings a great consistent defensive energy and he got rewarded on the score board kicking some big goals in big moments."

Jake Stein

10 disposals, 5 tackles

"Again really impressed with the level of consistency in his defensive game. He is hard to play against every week and is going along well."

Jacob Wehr

21 disposals, 4 marks

"Jacob started down back where he has started to build a really strong relationship with Peatling. Once we lost Shaw he went to the wing for the first time this year and played the role really well. It was great to see him have a defensive and offensive impact across the ground."
