14 games into his AFL career, Tom Green has his second NAB AFL Rising Star nomination.

The 20-year-old midfielder played six games in his debut season last year - picking up his first nomination in just his second match.

In his second season, the Canberran has played all but one game and is averaging more than 20 disposals a game.

In Saturday’s close loss to the Tigers, Green had 24 touches, 10 contested possessions, four tackles and a goal in another impressive performance.

“It was nice for a Monday morning,” Green said upon hearing about his nomination.

“It would have been nicer for it to come after a win but it’s nice nonetheless.”

Green said he’s starting to find his feet as part of the GIANTS’ on-ball unit in 2021.

“We’re starting to get really good synergy and especially myself as a young player, I’m starting to get a great feel for how I fit in in the midfield and how we play together,” he said.

“Hopefully we can keep continuing to develop that and perform as a midfield group.”

Green has openly said he was disappointed with his debut season, wanting to find consistency at AFL level in a bid to be playing regularly week-in, week-out.

“A fair bit of it was just getting another pre-season under my belt, getting fitter and stronger which I was really happy with,” he said.

“It was also continuing to improve my outside game.

“I’m generally pretty strong in the contest and that’s my great strength but continuing to develop my outside game and how I can get involved in the game away from the contest.

“And then continuing to develop my craft as a forward as well and tying to kick more goals.”

The youngster has hit the scoreboard so far this season, kicking five goals in eight matches. And a recent goal celebration with Bobby Hill has caught the eye of footy fans everywhere.

“It’s been caught on camera a few times … we were just talking about how we could have a bit of fun with a celebration that’s unique to us and that’s what we came up with.”

The GIANTS will celebrate a Big Big decade when they face the West Coast Eagles at home on Sunday at 1:10pm.

In season 2021 the GIANTS are celebrating their 10th season in the AFL with Sunday’s game to fall near the anniversary of the first-ever game at GIANTS Stadium - against Essendon on May 26, 2012.
