Forward Toby Greene and midfielder Matt de Boer will both miss Friday night’s clash against Essendon at Metricon Stadium.

Scans on Monday afternoon confirmed that the pair both suffered hamstring strains during Sunday’s win over the Suns.

Greene, 26, came from the ground in the first quarter and took no further part in the match.

De Boer, who hasn’t missed a game in 2020, suffered the injury in the closing minutes of the 26-point win over the Suns.

Greene is expected to miss two weeks while de Boer is likely to miss two to three weeks.

“It’s unfortunate that those two lads hurt themselves during the game,” said Head of Medical Cullan Ball.

“We expect Greeney will probably miss a couple of weeks and Dutch (de Boer) is expected to miss two or three depending on how he progresses through his rehab.”

Following the Friday night match against Essendon, the GIANTS fly to Perth to play the Swans on Thursday, August 13 and expect to take on the Eagles and Dockers in rounds 13 and 14.

Defender Matt Buntine has also been added to the injury list after a minor quad injury kept him out of last Friday’s practice match against the Swans.

Former captain Callan Ward and defender Adam Kennedy made successful returns from injury in that game.

“Matt just strained his left quad in one of the practice matches so he was always going to miss a couple of weeks,” Ball said.

“He’s definitely going to miss this week and then we’ll see how he’s going for the next game.”

The GIANTS take on Essendon on Friday night at Metricon Stadium while the non-selected players from both sides will play off in a practice match earlier that day.

Sam Reid (calf), Daniel Lloyd (finger), Isaac Cumming (hamstring) and Sam Taylor (illness/back) continue their rehabilitation in the Queensland hub.
