Stephen Coniglio, Lachie Whitfield and Shane Mumford will face fitness tests ahead of Sunday’s MCG clash against Richmond.

Vice-captain Coniglio hyperextended his knee right on half-time in the GIANTS’ loss to the Lions last weekend but scans have cleared him of any structural damage.

"He’s pretty good,” said GIANTS General Manager of Football Wayne Campbell.

“No major structural damage, he just hyperextended it a little bit and he’s pulled up pretty well.

“He’ll have to train and we’ll test him and all that sort of stuff but the good news is there’s no major damage and at this stage we probably expect him to play this weekend.”

Whitfield looks set to return from his fractured collarbone after the club opted to be cautious with the star midfielder last week.

“He was really close to playing last week … we decided to give him another week,” Campbell said.

“At this stage he’ll certainly play this week. He trained well last Thursday, had a big session on Saturday as well so he should be ready to go on the wide expanses of the MCG on Sunday.”

Mumford could also return this week after missing the round 16 clash with soreness.

“We’ll have to test him as the week goes on,” Campbell said.

"He’s pulled up a bit better than he was before with his sore knee and older man’s body so we’ll have to see how he progresses through the week.”

Vice-captain Josh Kelly will miss the trip to the MCG and is expected to be sidelined for around three weeks with a calf injury.

“He’s got a grade one tear of his calf so at this stage it looks like probably three weeks, it could be a week either side of that,” Campbell said.

“At this stage he’ll certainly miss this weekend and probably a couple after that.”

Young forward Zach Sproule will make his return from a MCL knee injury in the NEAFL on Saturday, earlier than expected.

“He’s a couple of weeks ahead of schedule so all going well he’ll play up in Darwin this weekend against the NT Thunder,” Campbell said.

“He’s done really well, it was a reasonably serious knee injury and he’s rehabbed it really well and diligently and we’re looking forward to seeing him play this weekend.”

The GIANTS take on the Tigers at the MCG on Sunday at 1:10pm with live coverage on Channel 7 in NSW and the ACT and Fox Footy nationally.
