Young forward Lachie Tiziani has suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in the GIANTS’ NEAFL loss to the Suns on the weekend.

The second-year draftee fell awkwardly in a tackle during the third term of the GIANTS’ 21 point loss in Mackay and immediately called for the stretcher.

Subsequent scans confirmed the 21-year-old ruptured the ACL in his right knee which will rule him out for the rest of the season.

“This is really sad news for Lachie who had been putting together some impressive form in the NEAFL,” said GIANTS Head of Athletic Performance David Joyce.

“He’ll have surgery tomorrow and then we’ll sit down and map out a rehab plan for the coming months with him.

“Lachie knows he has the full support of everyone at the GIANTS to get him back out on the field and we’re sure there are bigger and better things to come for him.”

The Broken Hill product had booted three goals in the second quarter and was one of the GIANTS’ best on ground until the injury.

It’s an unfortunate blow for the GIANTS Academy product who was selected at pick 54 in the 2016 NAB AFL Draft and had been pushing for his senior debut across this year’s JLT Community Series.

The club will release the weekly Westfund Rehab Report on Tuesday as usual.
