GIANTS wingman Lachie Whitfield has become the latest player to sign a contract extension, re-signing until the end of 2020.

Not out of contract until the end of the 2018 season, the 23-year-old has put pen to paper on the eve of the GIANTS' semi-final against West Coast.

“It was a pretty easy decision really,” Whitfield said.

“This has been my home since I arrived five years ago and this is where I want to play my football.

“I love the Sydney lifestyle and wouldn’t want to be anywhere else.

“We’re building something special and I’m looking forward to what’s to come in the next few years.”

The classy midfielder was drafted with pick one in the 2012 NAB AFL Draft and has played 88 games for the club over his five seasons.

He has averaged more than 24 disposals and six marks a game, kicking 10 goals for the season.

GIANTS General Manager of Football Wayne Campbell said the club was delighted to extend Whitfield’s contract.

“Lachie is an integral part of our footy club and we’re excited to extend his contract for another two seasons,” he said.

“He continues to impress all of us here at the GIANTS with his diligence and we’re seeing the benefits of this on-field.”

Whitfield’s commitment comes after Jacob Hopper, Dawson Simpson and Daniel Lloyd all re-signed with the club over the past fortnight.

The GIANTS will take on West Coast in a must-win semi-final at Spotless Stadium on Saturday night.
