GIANTS defender Adam Kennedy has signed a three-year contract extension that will see him remain in orange and charcoal until at least the end of 2020.

The 24-year-old, who is sidelined due to a season ending knee injury, is the latest in a long list of GIANTS to extend their contracts with the club.

Kennedy, who joined the GIANTS in 2011 as a previous draft nominee having been overlooked in the 2010 draft, has played 83 games for the GIANTS since debuting in the club’s first game in 2012.

The contract extension is a show of faith for the injured defender, who was in fine form until he ruptured his ACL in the GIANTS’ round seven loss to St Kilda.

“A lot of the guys I’m really close to have extended their contracts lately and there was no hesitation from my end,” said Kennedy.

“The club has always been great to me, but especially since my injury and this is where I see my future.

“We’ve come a long way as a group and I believe there are plenty of exciting times ahead.

“I know I can’t be out there this year but I’ll do everything I can to help the guys go as far as they can this season and I’m looking towards 2018, and getting back bigger and better.”

GIANTS General Manager of Football Wayne Campbell said both parties were happy to proceed with the contract extension despite the serious injury.

“Adam is a highly respected and really popular member of the playing group, so we’re delighted he’s recommitted to the GIANTS,” said Campbell.

“He’s been here from the start and has been a key part of the culture we’ve built, and wants to keep growing with the club.

“While 2017 hasn’t panned out the way he was hoping, we look forward to Adam return to the field in 2018 and playing a key role for the GIANTS for many years to come.”

Kennedy’s re-signing caps off a big week for the GIANTS with top draft picks Tim Taranto, Will Setterfield and Harry Perryman all re-committing to the club until 2020 on Wednesday.

The four signings this week join the ever-growing list of GIANTS to re-commit to the club with Dylan Shiel, Jon Patton, Zac Williams, Adam Tomlinson, Matt Buntine, Jeremy Finlayson and Matthew Flynn all re-signing in recent months.
