The GIANTS have continued to finalise the club’s playing list ahead of the 2017 Toyota AFL Premiership season.

Midfielder Jake Barrett has been delisted – although the GIANTS will assess the option of re-listing Barrett in the 2016 Rookie Draft - while Sam Reid and Daniel Lloyd have been retained on the club’s Rookie list.

The GIANTS have also welcomed the re-signings of ruckmen Tom Downie and Dawson Simpson, along with defender Tim Mohr.

Downie and Mohr have both agreed to two-year contract extensions, while Simpson has signed a one-year deal to remain at the GIANTS for the 2017 season.

All six players were instrumental in the GIANTS winning this year’s NEAFL Premiership.

Barrett joined the GIANTS as a NSW-ACT priority zone selection with pick 97 of the 2013 NAB AFL Draft and played one game for the club in round 23, 2015.

Reid played six AFL games for the GIANTS in 2016 after being elevated from the Rookie list in April earlier this year. Lloyd was also elevated to the club’s primary list in June this year, before being named as an emergency for the GIANTS’ round 13 match against Essendon.

The 27-year-old Simpson joined the GIANTS in 2015 as an unrestricted free agent from Geelong, where he played 28 AFL games.

Mohr joined the GIANTS as a pre-selection in 2011 and has played 45 games for the club including two in 2016. The 196cm defender’s return to the AFL was one of the highlights of the 2016 season after missing the 2014 and 2015 seasons following two knee reconstructions.

Downie has played nine games for the GIANTS, including one in 2016, after debuting against Fremantle in round 20, 2013. The 201cm ruckman is one of the GIANTS inaugural squad members, having been selected by the club with pick 56 of the 2011 NAB AFL Draft.
