GIANTS co-captain Callan Ward joined more than 1000 people for White Ribbon Australia’s annual march in Lakemba last night.

White Ribbon is Australia’s only national, male led campaign to end men's violence against women.

Ward, a White Ribbon Ambassador, proudly walked alongside school children, families and community groups who support the event.

NSW Police Commissioner Andrew Scipione, White Ribbon Australia CEO Libby Davies, Channel 7 personality Andrew O’Keefe and players from the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs also took part.

Ward said it was a great experience to march alongside so many people united for the same cause.

“I have three sisters, a mum, a girlfriend and many female friends so this is something I am really passionate about,” Ward said.

“Violence against women is something that needs to stop immediately so educating people is very important.

“It was great to see so many young people involved in this initiative and I look forward to spreading the White Ribbon message and taking part in this event again next year.”

GIANTS Chief Operating Officer Richard Griffiths said the club has a strong relationship with White Ribbon, through the GIANTS Care program.

“White Ribbon is a premium community partner of the GIANTS and each year we play for the White Ribbon Cup against the Sydney Swans,” Griffiths said.

“We’re delighted to be involved with such a great organisation who do such great work in the community.”

One woman a week in Australia is killed as a result of intimate partner violence, one in five Australian women experience harassment in the workplace and one in five women over the age of 18 will be stalked in their lifetime.

The GIANTS partnership with White Ribbons is part of the GIANTS Care program which delivers on the four key pillars of the club’s community agenda; health, harmony, education and employment.
