Player Bio

Born in County Tyrone, Northern Ireland Aidan Corr was recruited by the GIANTS with pick 14 in the 2012 NAB AFL Draft. He is a tall defender who is extremely competitive by nature and spoils aggressively. Corr has good speed and agility for his 194cm frame and uses the ball well by foot. Corr made his debut in round 6, 2013. Injury has plagued the defender since his debut with shoulder, ankle and hand injuries restricting him to 36 games in his first four season at the club. 2017 was a breakout year for the defender, with Corr playing 23 games to help the GIANTS reach their second successive Preliminary Final.

The promising key defender made a delayed start to last year due to a hand injury, but after missing most of 2016, he responded by playing the last 23 games of the season. Corr has fantastic speed for a big man which allows him to play on small forwards but also has the height and strength to match up on the competition’s best tall goalkickers. Decision-making can be an issue at times, but Corr’s foot skills are outstanding and his presence allowed co-captain Phil Davis more freedom to marshal the GIANTS backline. Is out of contract at the end of this season and will be a priority re-signing for the GIANTS, with Victorian clubs certain to come after his services.

Last season started in promising fashion for the key defender, but a serious ankle injury virtually ended his year in round three against the Sydney Swans at the SCG. Corr made his way back and played five games in the NEAFL at the end of the season, including the premiership win, but unfortunately it was too late to earn senior selection for the finals. The 22-year-old is an important part of the club's best 22 in the backline and, with co-captain Phil Davis, gives the team great strength down the spine.

The promising key defender had his most consistent year, playing 19 games in 2015, and was especially important for coach Leon Cameron mid-year when co-captain Phil Davis and Joel Patfull went down with injuries. Another pre-season in the gym should see him ready to take another significant step this year. Signed a new deal last season, keeping him at the club until the end of 2018.

The young defender was another of the GIANTS to be struck down by injury in 2014. Starting off in the NEAFL, Corr performed well enough to earn his first AFL start of the season against West Coast in round eight. He kept his place for four games before a shoulder injury requiring surgery ended his campaign in June. The GIANTS are still excited about his potential, with good reason.

The Northern Irishman enjoyed a tidy first year at senior level, making 10 appearances in the GIANTS’ backline. His aggression and attack on the ball is valued at the club and he showed good ball use, capped by a 14-possession effort against Port Adelaide in round 12. Looks to be a long-term prospect.

The Northern Irishman, who moved to Melbourne with his family as a toddler, is a key defensive prospect hailing from the Northern Knights. Corr possesses good speed and agility for his size and is also a strong ball user. Renowned for his aggression, a trait valued highly at the GIANTS, he is another AIS-AFL Graduate.
