The GIANTS will head into the 2019 season with an unchanged leadership line-up as Phil Davis and Callan Ward are confirmed as club captains for the eighth-straight season.

Vice-captains Stephen Coniglio and Josh Kelly will continue to support the duo, with Matt de Boer rounding out the five-man leadership group.

Davis and Ward, both 28, have captained the GIANTS since the club’s inaugural 2012 season and are the league’s longest-serving leaders, alongside Geelong’s Joel Selwood.

GIANTS General Manager of Football Wayne Campbell said the playing group, coaches and key football staff went through a comprehensive process to assess the best leadership structure for 2019.

“Like any good organisation, we believe it’s important to evaluate your leadership group at the beginning of every season,” Campbell said.

“What that process demonstrated for us is that we have a number of outstanding leaders at our club both in official leadership positions as well as across our entire playing group.

“Phil and Callan have developed into two of the finest leaders in the competition and we are really proud to have the two of them leading us into the 2019 season.

“Stephen and Josh continue to provide quality support as vice-captains while Matt has made a wonderful contribution to the leadership at our club since arriving two seasons ago.”

Davis said he was honoured to receive the co-captaincy once again.

“It’s an extremely humbling appointment,” Davis said.

“Callan and I have been leading this side for eight seasons together and we’re very fortunate to be once again given the opportunity to lead this great group.

“We’re a hungry group with a real determination to succeed, which makes it a pleasure to continue in this role in 2019.”

Ward echoed his fellow captain’s thoughts.

“We were both young players and leaders when we started in these roles and both the club and ourselves have grown considerably over the journey," Ward said.

“With a new season comes a new opportunity to be better than the season before and that’s what we’re determined to do.

“With the support of Stephen, Josh and Matt, we have strong leaders in place to continue to drive this club forward.”

The GIANTS will open their 2019 season at home at Sydney Showground Stadium against Essendon on March 24.
