GIANTS Chairman Tony Shepherd has today announced that Geelong triple premiership star Jimmy Bartel has joined the club’s Board of Directors.

Bartel’s appointment will see the former Brownlow medallist bring his outstanding football knowledge and significant business acumen to the club’s Board.

Bartel’s football experience is unquestionable - across a highly decorated AFL career spanning 15 years, he played a key role in Geelong’s premierships in 2007, 2009 and 2011, claiming the Norm Smith medal for best on ground in 2011.

Bartel was awarded the game’s highest individual honour, the Brownlow Medal, in 2007, as well as earning All-Australian honours in 2007 and 2008.

In 2016, the final year of his 305-game career, Bartel was awarded the AFL’s most prestigious community award, the Jim Stynes Medal for his tireless work to raise funds and bring awareness to domestic violence victims.

In recent years, the 35-year old has built a impressive business resume which has seen Bartel hold a range of directorships and ambassadorial roles, including Touchstone Executive Search as well as apparel brand X-Blades, where he is also a part owner. He continues to be an investor in a host of leading start ups.

Bartel has held off-field roles at the Brisbane Lions and Caulfield Grammar as well as high-profile media roles across the Seven Network, Fairfax Media and a number of radio networks.

GIANTS Chairman Tony Shepherd said Bartel’s decision to join the Board is a significant fillip for the club.

“Jimmy is regarded as one of the most well-rounded people in the football community and we’re delighted to have him join our Board,” said Mr Shepherd.

“His knowledge of the AFL industry is second to none and his work in the community and in business sees him well positioned to contribute to the club in a range of ways.

“Jimmy understands that we’re a young club with enormous opportunity in front of us, something he is excited to be a part of.”

Bartel will continue to hold a variety of media and business roles on top of his duties as a GIANTS Director.
