Three GIANTS Academy players have been selected in the 2018-19 NAB AFL Academy squads.

Canberra’s Tom Green and Matthew McGrory, and the Riverina’s Liam Delahunty will take part in a two-week camp run by Allies coach and former GIANTS co-captain and assistant coach Luke Power in December.

The trio are amongst 150 players to take part in the high performance camps across the country.

Since 1997, 81 percent of NAB AFL Academy players have been drafted to AFL clubs with current GIANTS Lachie Whitfield, Zach Sproule, Jacob Hopper and Brett Deledio amongst the graduates.

GIANTS Academy Head Coach Jason Saddington said the NAB AFL Academy gives GIANTS Academy players the opportunity to further develop their skills.

“The opportunity to develop and learn with the elite players and coaches from within the Allies region further complements their work within our own Academy program,” he said.

“It’s a great boost to the players as they push towards performing strongly in their draft years.”

The best under-17 and under-18 players will have the opportunity to attend national camps before potentially playing against New Zealand in April and in the under-17 Futures game on Grand Final day.

Green, Delahunty and McGrory all played for the GIANTS NEAFL side in 2018.

“Tom Green is a 189cm inside mid who excels in the contested component of the game,” Saddington said.

“He has great character and wins high possession and clearances.

“Liam Delahunty is a 192cm versatile key forward who has demonstrated great ability to take marks and kick goals.

“He’s from Coolamon in the Riverina, and has great natural talent and quality skills.

“Matthew McGrory is a 187cm elite endurance runner with great closing speed and incredible ability to transition quickly from 50 to 50.

“An outside runner from Canberra who isn’t afraid to put his body on the line.”
