With the Brownlow Medal to be awarded in Melbourne on Monday night, we've taken a look at the GIANTS' chances in this year.

The GIANTS biggest hopes once again rest with gun midfielders Stephen Coniglio, Callan Ward and Josh Kelly, but wingman-turned-running defender Lachie Whitfield should also attract plenty of votes after his All Australian season.

Kelly missed seven games with injury so probably can't win it, but the middle of his season was outstanding.

Best chance: Stephen Coniglio
The West Australian was somehow left out of the All Australian squad, but once again put up some big numbers, similar to his 2016 season in which he polled 17 votes.

The difference with Coniglio this season was his impact while playing forward, kicking 21 goals. The tough nut is always under the umpire's nose and his presence won't be missed.

Fast starter: Stephen Coniglio
Stared the year with 32 touches, 10 inside 50s, seven tackles, five clearances and two goals against the Western Bulldogs, then followed that up with 27 and three important majors against Collingwood. Huge opening month.

One-vote wonder: Toby Greene
The star forward came off virtually no pre-season to kick four goals from 25 possessions and 10 marks against the Western Bulldogs in round one and looked ready for a big year. It wasn't to be.

What AFL.com.au’s Brownlow Medal Predictor says:

Stephen Coniglio – 14 votes

Coniglio is predicted to pick up best on ground votes in the GIANTS’ round two in over Collingwood at the MCG (27 disposals and three goals) and in the GIANTS’ round 18 win over Port Adelaide at the Adelaide Oval (25 disposals and one goal).

Callan Ward – 14 votes

According to the predictor, Ward will take home best on ground honours in the GIANTS’ round four win over Fremantle in Canberra (34 disposals) and from the round 17 win over Richmond at Spotless Stadium (32 disposals).

Josh Kelly – 12 votes

Although he missed seven games, Kelly is expected to again poll well, picking up maximum votes in round 14 against Brisbane (30 disposals and two goals) and round 20 against Carlton (41 disposals).

Lachie Whitfield – 12 votes

The All Australian half-back will pick up two best on ground performances against St Kilda in round 19 (32 disposals) and again in round 21 against Adelaide (30 disposals and one goal).

Jeremy Cameron* – 6 votes

Despite being ineligible, Cameron is expected to poll six votes over two games. The forward is tipped to poll three votes in both round one (six goals, 18 disposals and nine marks against the Western Bulldogs) and round 12 (six goals and 26 disposals against the Gold Coast).

Matt de Boer – 3 votes

Having polled just two votes in his 168 games, de Boer is predicted to pick up all three votes in a best on ground performance against Brisbane in round six. De Boer picked up a career-best 35 disposals and kicked a goal in the 34 point win.

Brett Deledio – 3 votes

The veteran forward was at his best in round five kicking two goals and collecting 29 disposals in the GIANTS’ draw with St Kilda. The Brownlow Predictor believes he’ll pick up best on ground honours in this game.

Dylan Shiel – 3 votes

The Brownlow Predictor is tipping Shiel to poll just once during the 2018 season. Shiel’s 29 disposal and one goal performance against Adelaide in round 11 getting the three votes for best on ground.

Nick Haynes – 2 votes

The high-flying defender could poll the first Brownlow Votes of his career in round four. Haynes was unstoppable against Fremantle in Canberra, taking 15 marks and collecting 29 touches in the GIANTS’ 31 point win.

Harry Himmelberg – 2 votes

Himmelberg had his best season at AFL level and it peaked in the GIANTS’ round 19 clash with St Kilda at Spotless Stadium when he kicked four goals in a 25 point win. The Brownlow Predictor is giving him the two votes in this game.

Toby Greene – 1 vote

Greene played just nine games in 2018 but was at his best in round one kicking four goals, taking 10 marks and collecting 25 disposals in the GIANTS’ win over the Western Bulldogs. He’s predicted to pick up his only vote for the year in that win.
