The NEAFL GIANTS have kept their finals hopes alive with a resounding 70 point win over the Gold Coast Suns at Metricon Stadium on Saturday.

Daniel Lloyd and Harry Perryman both put their hands up for an AFL recall, starring in the 20.9 (129) to 9.5 (59) win.

Lloyd kicked six goals, had eight inside 50s and collected 39 disposals while Perryman was dynamic in the midfield collecting 43 possessions, winning 12 clearances and kicking a goal.

The NEAFL GIANTS led from start to finish with the win drawing them level on points with the Brisbane Lions, but despite the significant percentage boost they remain in seventh position, outside the top six.

“It was a great effort to go up there missing a few due to injuries the week before,” GIANTS NEAFL coach Adam Schneider said.

“The attitude was great from our guys and it was pleasing to see them get rewarded for it."

One of the highlights for the GIANTS came late in the match when defender Jake Stein was sent forward and kicked his first goal for the club in his 30th NEAFL game.

Young defender Isaac Cumming will be assessed during the week after picking up a shoulder injury during the second quarter.

The GIANTS’ fight for a top-six spot continues next Saturday, August 18, when they take on the Swans at Spotless Stadium at 1:10pm.

GIANTS NEAFL coach Adam Schneider on the GIANTS’ AFL-Listed Players:

Zach Sproule – 20 disposals, 13 hit outs, 7 clearances, 3 goals

“Sproule was great for us. He was our second ruck for the game and took a little while to get into the game, but once he went in the midfield he was super dangerous. When he works hard he gets rewarded, it was good to see him kick the three goals.”

Jeremy Finlayson – 23 disposals, 5 tackles

“A really good game form Jeremy, he played half-back flank and, with us losing Isaac Cumming during the game, he had to step up for us and he really did. He played a few roles for us down back and did what we wanted him too. He brought a great balance of offence and defence … it was a really great game.”

Harry Perryman – 42 disposals, 1 goal, 14 clearances

“He was super, his footy smarts and ball control around stoppages was fantastic with 12 clearances and 43 touches. It was super, he’s just so smart. He also worked really, really hard all day, which was really pleasing to see after coming back from a hamstring injury.”

Daniel Lloyd – 39 disposals, 6 marks, 8 inside 50s, 6 goals

“Unbelievable game from Lloydy, his work rate was a huge standout for us. He was phenomenal the way he worked up and back on the ground all day long. To his credit, he was rewarded with six goals and unselfishly gave one off late in the game when he could have had a shot.”

Jake Stein – 19 disposals, 9 marks, 1 goal

“Very pleased with his game, he’s strung some good games together this year and his improvement’s come week by week this year. What was pleasing was he only got beaten one on one defensively once. We stuck him forward in the goal square in the last quarter, which he’s been begging me for during the last 12 weeks, he dropped a chest mark in the first minute down there then he took a pack mark a kicked a goal so we dragged him after that and said ‘that’ll do for the day’.”

Isaac Cumming – 14 disposals, 5 marks

“It was unfortunate that his day ended early as he was in some super form and his run off half-back was sensational. He’s been working on that balance and he’s been putting in lots of work over the past six weeks. Hopefully it’s not too bad and we’ll get him back as soon as possible.
