GIANTS ruckman Rory Lobb has been cleared of any serious damage to his knee but faces a fitness test to take on Fremantle at UNSW Canberra Oval on Saturday.

Lobb landed awkwardly in a marking contest during the second quarter of last weekend’s loss to the Swans and had to be helped from the field.

Despite initial fears of a serious knee injury, he returned just before half-time and played out the game at full-forward.

“He came off, we assessed him, we look for the integrity of the ligaments - the ACL and all those things - they tested rock solid, so we were really happy with that,” said GIANTS Head of Athletic Performance David Joyce.

“We made the assessment, and Rory made the assessment himself, that he was safe and functional to go back out there.

“We scanned him afterwards and he assessed really well. He’s got some bone bruising in the lateral (outside) aspect of his knee and we just need to make sure that that settles down before we re-load him.

“He’s had a pretty quiet start to the week and we’ll just see how he goes for the rest of the week.”

Star forward Toby Greene looks set to return from hamstring soreness against the Dockers.

The 2016 Virgin Australia All Australian and Kevin Sheedy Medallist kicked four goals in the season opener before missing the past two matches.

“He was obviously really close on the weekend and we took a really cautious decision with Toby, we know how important he is to us,” Joyce said.

He’s had a really good last week, so I expect him to roll into training tomorrow, get through that and roll through Captains Run and be available for the game if he does all that.”

In other news, Ryan Griffen played a full game in the NEAFL on Saturday, picking up 31 touches and being named best on ground in the GIANTS’ win over the Swans.

Defender Matt Buntine is also in full non-restricted training and nearing a return to the NEAFL following his ACL injury in April last year.
