Forward Zac Langdon will become the 84th player to pull on the orange and charcoal when he makes his AFL debut for the GIANTS on Sunday afternoon.

Following an impressive JLT Community Series, the fast and agile forward will become just the third GIANT to wear the number 17 guernsey when he steps onto UNSW Canberra Oval for the blockbuster round one clash with the Western Bulldogs.

The 22-year-old West Australian was selected at pick 56 in the 2017 NAB AFL Draft after two impressive seasons in the WAFL for Claremont.

GIANTS General Manager Football Wayne Campbell said Langdon has earned his debut having impressed throughout the pre-season.

“Zac’s a great story having been picked up pretty late in the draft as a 22-year old,” Campbell said.

“Adrian Caruso and our recruiting team deserves a lot of credit for bringing Zac to the GIANTS having followed him closely for a couple of years.

“His work rate on the training track has been impressive throughout the summer and the professionalism he has shown since November has been a real standout.

“He replicated that form from the training track in his two JLT outings and showed he’s ready to handle the rigours of the AFL.

“We believe his defensive pressure is something that can really add to our forward line too.”

Campbell said the former apprentice electrician who hails from Dampier, a small town 1,530km north of Perth, arrived at the club AFL ready.

“Being 22 and having spent time in the WAFL means he’s come to the club with a real hunger and energy, and everyone around the club really noticed that from the day he walked into the club,” Campbell said.

“While all draftees need a bit of work when they first arrive, Zac came with a bit of an advantage by having a more mature body.”

Langdon will line up for the GIANTS for the first time at UNSW Canberra Oval this Sunday at 1.10pm. Tickets are available through Ticketek.
