Co-captain Phil Davis has put pen to paper on a three-year contract extension that will see him in the orange and charcoal until the end of 2021.

The inaugural co-captain of the GIANTS, 27-year-old Davis is entering his 10th season in the competition.

GIANTS List Manager Jason McCartney said it was more good news for the club following the recent re-signings of Toby Greene and Aiden Bonar.

“We had no doubt Phil would extend his contract but it’s always a great day when you sign your co-captain up,” McCartney said.

“Phil is an exemplary leader of this club and we wouldn’t be in the position we are today without him.

“On-field he’s coming off two really consistent seasons where he’s been able to show the competition why we’ve always regarded him as one of the best defenders in the game.”

Davis was one of the first uncontracted players to join the club after being drafted to the Adelaide Crows at pick 10 in 2008.

He’s played 121 games across his nine-year career with his commitment and bravery unquestionable, almost losing a kidney after an on-field collision in round one, 2014.

Davis said he had no hesitation in putting pen to paper.

“It’s an exciting time for me and also a great time to be part of the footy club,” he said.

“It was a very easy decision, I really didn’t have to put too much thought into it and it was a pretty quick process in the end.

“It’s been a great journey so far and hopefully there’s a fair few years left. I’m looking forward to the next four years if you include this year.”

The GIANTS have also secured the signature of young defender Isaac Cumming who has extended his contract to the end of 2020.

A GIANTS Academy product from Broken Hill, Cumming was drafted at pick 20 in the 2016 NAB AFL Draft.

Though yet to make his AFL debut, he had a strong first season in the NEAFL and pushed hard for selection with a consistent first year; being named a senior emergency multiple times and winning the club’s NEAFL Player of the Year Award.

“Isaac is an exciting young player who has a very promising future ahead of him,” McCartney said.

“In a tough year for our NEAFL side last season he showed his maturity and leadership skills to put together a great year of footy, winning the club’s NEAFL award.

“After a really good pre-season, we’re excited to see what he can do in 2018 and beyond.”

Cumming said he was excited to re-sign with the club ahead of his second season.

“I loved my first year at the club, settling into Sydney and getting to explore the city,” he said.

“We didn’t have many senior guys in the NEAFL due to injury but I think it helped me learn a lot and develop quicker than maybe I could have.

“I’ve had a really good pre-season and am just excited to get out there playing games again and push for a shot in the AFL side”.
