They're used to kicking goals on the footy field but now two GIANTS AFL Women's stars are helping to give at risk youth a sporting chance.

Alicia Eva and Tanya Hetherington have taken mentor roles at Ladder in Mt Druitt, an organisation which works with young people who have experienced – or are at risk of – homelessness.

GIANTS vice-captain Eva said: “It’s about finding out what their passions are and building a rapport. If you don’t have that they don’t come back. The goal is to help transition them to adult life.”

Ladder was founded in Victoria by three former AFL players in 2007.

It uses programs to upskill people aged 16-25 who have struggled to find a stable home and directs them towards employment and housing.

The program is free and young people can refer themselves to programs. For more information visit ladder.org.au.
